L.B. Foster Tubular Products Facility Receives 2011 Alabama Excellence Award

Birmingham Steel Pipe Coating Plant Recognized for Productivity and Quality

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Pittsburgh, PA-based L.B. Foster Company (NASDAQ: FSTR) announced that its steel pipe coating facility in Birmingham, Alabama has received the prestigious 2011 Alabama Excellence Award for performance innovations in manufacturing. This Level Three award is the highest recognition presented by the Alabama Productivity Center to organizations that have demonstrated sustained performance excellence through their practices and achievements. The Alabama Quality Awards program is modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and has been administered since 1986.

The L.B. Foster steel pipe coating plant is ISO 9001:2008 registered and employs a staff of up to 60 workers. The Birmingham facility applies fusion bond epoxy corrosion protection on 10.75" to 24" diameter steel line pipe manufactured by American Steel Pipe. The plant recently achieved an important milestone by reaching one million man hours without a Lost Time Accident. The Birmingham team had previously been recognized with the 2010 Alabama Quality Award Level One Commitment to Excellence.

The 2011 Alabama Excellence Award will be presented to L.B. Foster at the Alabama Productivity Center 2011 Annual Conference on December 7th in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Birmingham Pipe Coating Plant Sets High Standards for Safety Awareness

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 28, 2011 -- L.B. Foster Company (Nasdaq: FSTR) of Pittsburgh, PA announced that its Birmingham, Alabama steel line pipe coating facility has achieved one million man hours without a Lost Time Accident. No work-related injury or illness has prevented employees from fulfilling scheduled work shifts since March 26, 2001. "Our Birmingham team has achieved an incredible accomplishment by maintaining 10 successful years of proactive safety in their work environment," said Merry Brumbaugh, Vice President, L.B. Foster Tubular Products.

A decade of safe operations at the Alabama plant demonstrates an intense safety awareness encouraged by DuPont's Safety Training Observation Program and promoted with ongoing corporate-wide safety initiatives. "There is a total commitment to safety by team members and a real belief that all accidents are preventable," noted Tim Chiasson, General Manager Plant Operations, L.B. Foster Tubular Products.

The Birmingham plant schedules daily, weekly and monthly safety discussions in meetings that range from small teams to facility-wide events. These groups then elevate safety ideas and concerns to the L.B. Foster corporate level. This critical employee input helped Pittsburgh-based management to provide support that addressed equipment and material processing concerns regarding the safety environment of the coating facility.

L.B. Foster’s Merry Brumbaugh Elected NAPCA President

PITTSBURGH, PA, April 23, 2009 – Merry Brumbaugh, Vice President of Tubular Products at L.B. Foster Company, was elected 36th President of the National Association of Pipe Coating Applicators (NAPCA) at the organization’s 2009 NAPCA Convention. Brumbaugh becomes the first woman president of the association which represents the interests of pipe coating companies worldwide and firms that service the plant-applied coatings industry. The election took place on April 18th during the annual 4 day event at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tucson, Arizona. “I congratulate Merry on this appointment. Her varied background and experience will benefit NAPCA as they strive to implement meaningful change and continuous improvement in this current difficult market,” said Stan Hasselbusch, President and CEO of L.B. Foster Company.

The Tucson convention also included the election of two other important 2009 NAPCA officers. Brendan Ryan, Vice President and General Manager, USA for Bredero Shaw, was elected to the position of Vice President. Ryan Norris, Inside Sales Manager for Dura-Bond Coating, Inc., was elected as NAPCA Secretary/Treasurer.

L.B. Foster Coated Products to Apply FBE to 123 Miles of Colorado Pipeline

El Paso Energy Subsidiary Contracts for Corrosion Protection of Raton 2010 Pipeline Expansion Project Pipe

November 12, 2008 - Pittsburgh, PA -- L.B. Foster Coated Products has received a sizable order from Colorado Interstate Gas Company (CIG), a subsidiary of EL Paso Energy Corporation for coating of 123 Miles / 650,000 feet of 16" diameter line pipe. The Raton 2010 Pipeline Expansion Project will increase the supply of natural gas from Colorado's Raton Basin region to expanding markets throughout the Cheyenne Hub. Pipe and coating production will begin in December 2009 and ship to the project in January 2009. Delivery of the coated pipe will be made on unit trains that group 40 to 50 rail car and shipped as a single unit.
